Knowledgespeak interviewed William Park, Chief Executive Officer, DeepDyve, on October 6, Wednesday, at the Frankfurt book fair. Through the course of the interview, William shared with us several interesting insights.
When asked about his opinion on the main access problems faced by the researching population, William noted that the user interface, i.e. the website, is designed much more for the institutional researcher than for the individual or small business researcher. This challenge is then compounded by the budgetary limitations for users who are not affiliated with major institutions.
Further, talking about DeepDyve's online rental service, William noted that nearly 70% of visitors to their website are from outside the US. He went on to share that a majority of these visitors are from non-English speaking countries, with China and India being among the top 10 countries visiting. This corresponds with some of the demographic trends that the industry has been experiencing in the last 10 to 20 years.
Mr. Park also briefly discussed how the DeepDyve business model could affect the landscape of STM article purchasing.
The complete interview will be published in Knowledgespeak shortly.
