The Library Publishing Coalition (LPC) has released the second edition of its Library Publishing Research Agenda, offering an updated roadmap to support evidence-based practices. This revised edition builds on the original 2020 version, reflecting developments across key areas of library publishing and reinforcing LPC’s commitment to a dynamic, inclusive library publishing ecosystem.
The new edition provides expanded overviews and updated research questions across six thematic areas: assessment, labor, accessibility, non-traditional research outputs, peer review, and partnerships. Each section includes contextual summaries, refreshed or newly introduced questions, and curated resources to guide further exploration. The agenda is designed to assist researchers and practitioners in advancing knowledge and professional practice in library publishing.
Developed by LPC’s Research Committee in collaboration with its community, the agenda offers a flexible framework to guide new research and encourage critical evaluation of institutional practices. It promotes engagement with sector-wide trends while providing practical prompts for localized application.
It is designed as a foundational resource for individuals and organizations navigating current topics in scholarly communications, whether through research or practice. The agenda supports the LPC Research Committee’s goal of building an evidence base to enhance library publishing workflows, standards, and strategies.
The Library Publishing Research Agenda is available in PDF and HTML formats and is openly licensed under Creative Commons (CC BY), allowing broad reuse and adaptation.
Purdue University Libraries hosts the digital versions. The publication credits include contributors from various institutions and were produced in partnership with the Educopia Institute.
