Los Rios Libraries boost automation and efficiency with Ex Libris Alma’s Library Open Workflows -

The Los Rios Community College District in California, serving over 22,000 full-time-equivalent students across four colleges, has significantly streamlined library operations through Ex Libris Alma’s Library Open Workflows (LibOW).

Operating within a shared Alma institution, Los Rios libraries now collaborate on technical services and resource management with improved reliability and speed. Previously dependent on fragile custom scripts, the district has adopted LibOW to automate processes such as bursar checks and item tracking, reducing errors and manual workload while enhancing service accuracy.

As an early development partner, Los Rios collaborated closely with Ex Libris to refine LibOW capabilities. The solution now enables faster workflow development using Alma APIs, minimizing the need for custom coding and technical maintenance.

The implementation demonstrates how automation and shared systems can advance efficiency and collaboration across community college libraries, strengthening user services through scalable and sustainable technologies.
