Launched at the American Academy of Family Physicians' (AAFP) 2010 Scientific Assembly after successful beta tests, 5MinuteConsult.com seeks to help healthcare professionals quickly obtain critical information for the diagnosis, treatment and management of thousands of diseases and conditions.
A key advantage of 5MinuteConsult.com is the amount of information it gives. Continuously updated by healthcare professionals, it ensures that information provided in response to clinical questions is brief and accurate so that it can be used for immediate patient care.
In addition to the accuracy of content, two features of 5MinuteConsult.com that received high praise during beta tests are the procedure and physical therapy videos and patient handouts. Videos cover more than 200 procedures and physical therapy techniques and are highly instructional. The site also includes customisable handouts for patients that cover important information on their condition and instructions for treatment and management. Handouts are available in English and Spanish and can be printed or emailed directly to patients.
Other features of 5MinuteConsult.com include: drug monographs containing patient and family education; more than 180 diagnostic and treatment algorithms; step-by-step procedures; diagnostic tests; and thousands of images. The latest version includes a mobile-friendly site version to help family medicine physicians, internists, nurse practitioners and physician assistants at the point-of-care with patients.
