LWW releases two interactive testing programmes for nursing students -

Healthcare publisher Lippincott Williams & Wilkins (LWW), part of Wolters Kluwer Health, US, has launched two interactive testing programmes powered by Prep-U for nursing students. The programmes are claimed to revolutionise how students learn and prepare for the National Council Licensure Exam for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). "Prep-U for Smeltzer, 12th Edition" is derived from Brunner and Suddarth's Textbook of Medical-Surgical Nursing. Along with "Prep-U for NCLEX-RN", it is seen to personalise the learning experience for the nursing student.

The new programmes are projected to allow students to progress at their own pace and receive formative feedback to foster true learning. Both new programmes are being demonstrated this week at the National League of Nursing (NLN) Education Summit in Las Vegas.

The Prep-U platform is based on an adaptive quizzing engine that can be personalised for individual nursing students as well as entire classes. It is also projected to offer educators real time analysis at the class and individual student levels. Research is said to have shown that students who take practice quizzes like those on Prep-U do better on exams, and LWW's system has been specially designed to help nursing students succeed.

Prep-U for Smeltzer questions are specifically designed to mimic the style of the NCLEX, and when students answer questions incorrectly, they receive not only the correct answer, but a "rationale" explaining the correct answer and reasons for why each other choice was incorrect. Prep-U for NCLEX-RN includes all of the features and questions from the Smeltzer programme but is specifically geared as a preparation product for the NCLEX exam. Students using this programme can expect to gain access to thousands of questions organized by 29 core nursing topics or by the NCLEX "Client Needs" category.
