OCLC, the non-profit computer library service and research organisation, has announced that
Maastricht University, a leading international university in the Netherlands, has selected OCLC WorldShare Management Services as its library management system.
WorldShare Management Services (WMS) provide cloud-based library management and discovery applications in an integrated suite, offering librarians a comprehensive system to manage library workflows efficiently, and improve access to library collections and services.
In February 2014, the UKB consortium of Dutch University Libraries and the National Library of the Netherlands, of which Maastricht University Library is a member, signed an agreement to move library services to the OCLC WorldShare Platform, an open, cloud-based infrastructure that supports the integration of library data and applications from OCLC and other information providers and partners. The move took Dutch metadata management, resource sharing and discovery services to a global infrastructure that creates efficiencies in workflow and IT infrastructure. Maastricht University is the latest Dutch university to move its library management workflows to WorldShare.
WorldShare Management Services provide a complete set of library management applications and services built on an open, cloud-based platform. WMS was designed to facilitate the cooperative work of libraries and to provide new efficiencies. Libraries using WMS experience reductions in the time it takes to perform routine tasks and have the ability to reallocate time to new initiatives, such as cataloging special collections, or other projects that might need attention.
