Macmillan arm acquires US school textbooks publisher Compset -

Macmillan Publishing Solutions (MPS), the outsourcing arm of Macmillan India Ltd., has announced the acquisition of Compset Inc., a US-based provider of full-service graphics and composition services, for an undisclosed amount. Compset holds developmental and production expertise in elementary-high (el-hi) school textbooks, higher education, medical reference books, academic and university titles, trade books and professional journals.

With this acquisition, MPS seeks to further strengthen its position in the el-hi market, which concentrates on instructional materials for elementary and secondary schools. The new production group brings to the Macmillan organisation 30 years of expert onshore capabilities specialising in the area of K-12 full-service production. The unit is claimed to be experienced in every el-hi discipline and in every major market segment, which includes professional, trade, STM, higher education and journals production. In addition, a large stable of seasoned freelancers, developed over many years, are seen to further enrich MPS' service offerings. These offerings now include el-hi and college developmental editing, art buying and art programme management, project management, translation services, design, production and XML workflows.

Robert Moschetto, previously the President of Compset, now assumes the role of Vice President, Production Services, of the new East Coast centre. The newly acquired unit will be merged with ICC Macmillan, the wholly owned US subsidiary of Macmillan India, which was acquired in early 2006.
