Major IT and BPO firms together with private equity players are reportedly in the race for Scientific Publishing Services (SPS). SPS, a leading premedia and typesetting services provider for STM publishers, is majority owned by scientific and specialist information publisher Springer Science + Business Media, Germany. According to sources, the SPS deal is estimated at around $100 million.
Among the contestants for the firm are IT leaders, Wipro and Infosys Technologies. BPO firms Firstsource Solutions, WNS Global Services and Genpact are also reported to be in the race to acquire SPS. In addition, four private equity players - General Atlantic, Carlyle, Blackstone and Citigroup Venture Capital - are also learnt to be interested in the firm.
Founded in 1995, SPS provides end to end services including data conversion, XML solutions, copy editing, typesetting, graphic production and complex e-deliverables. The company employs nearly 1500 people across centres in Chennai and Bangalore in India.
