Frontiers has announced a new three-year flat fee agreement with Manchester Metropolitan University (Man Met), effective from 2025. This partnership will allow researchers at Man Met to publish unlimited articles in all Frontiers journals without incurring individual article processing charges (APCs), marking a significant step forward in advancing open access publishing at the institution.
The agreement provides several key benefits for both Man Met researchers and the university, enabling a more efficient and accessible publishing experience:
• Unlimited Publishing Opportunities: Man Met-affiliated authors will be able to publish without limitations and at no cost to themselves, ensuring that their research is widely disseminated and reaches a global audience.
• Budget Security: The flat fee structure offers predictable and transparent pricing, simplifying financial planning for the university and eliminating any uncertainty surrounding publication costs.
• Administrative Ease: By covering APCs and providing an inclusive publishing model, Frontiers reduces the administrative workload for both researchers and university staff, allowing them to focus on the advancement of science rather than financial or logistical concerns.
• Full Open Access Compliance: All published articles will be made available under a CC-BY license, ensuring immediate, open access and retaining copyright for authors.
This partnership is designed to make research publication more equitable and sustainable, removing financial barriers that can impede access to scholarly publishing. By eliminating APCs and providing predictable pricing, Man Met ensures that its researchers can focus solely on their work, fostering greater innovation and collaboration.
To qualify for the benefits of this agreement, researchers must ensure that the corresponding author is affiliated with Manchester Metropolitan University and submits their manuscript using their institutional email address.
Frontiers is actively working to engage with other UK institutions to create similar agreements, further promoting a sustainable and equitable open access publishing ecosystem. This partnership with Man Met exemplifies the shift toward fully open access publishing and reflects both the university's dedication to supporting open access and Frontiers’ role in facilitating the global transition to open science.
