The National Federation of Advanced Information Services (NFAISTM), a global non-profit membership organisation serving the information services community, has announced that Marty Kahn, Chairman of Code Ocean, has been selected to receive the NFAIS 2019 Miles Conrad Award.
NFAIS' Miles Conrad Award, long considered the information community's premier annual honour for achievement in fostering the growth of information services, will honour Kahn during the NFAIS 61st Annual Conference, scheduled to be held from February 13 - 15, 2019, as he joins the esteemed industry leaders, innovators, and opinion-makers from the full breadth of the information community who have previously received this award.
Kahn is widely known and respected throughout the information industry, having led a variety of companies to success through the dynamic years before and after the birth of the Internet. He has served as Chairman of Code Ocean-a cloud-based computational reproducibility platform that enables code to be peer reviewed, reused, or re-run with entirely new data, all directly within their compute capsule-since 2014. Kahn was Vice Chairman of ProQuest, LLC (2011 - 2013) after serving as ProQuest's Chief Executive Officer when it was acquired by Cambridge Information Group in 2007. Before joining ProQuest, Kahn was Chairman of the Board of Directors of OneSource Information Services, Inc. (1993 - 2004). He also served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ovid Technologies, Inc. (1989-1998), and as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vista Information Solutions.
Kahn will be honoured at the NFAIS 2019 Annual Conference, February 13-15, in Alexandria, VA, and will deliver the Miles Conrad Memorial Lecture at the conference. Nominations for the Miles Conrad Award are submitted by the NFAIS membership, and awardees are selected by majority vote of the Board of Directors.
The NFAIS Miles Conrad Award and Memorial Lecture is named in honour of G. Miles Conrad (1911 - 1964), co-founder of NFAIS. Conrad, who was the former president of BIOSIS, had an early grasp of the potential of computer technology when applied to the creation, organisation and dissemination of research information. Recent recipients of the Miles Conrad Award include Dr. C. Lee Giles, David Reese Professor at the College of Information Sciences and Technology at the Pennsylvania State University; Judith Russell, Dean of University Libraries at the University of Florida; Deanna Marcum, former Managing Director, Ithaka S+R; and Tim Collins, President and CEO of EBSCO Industries.
