Mary Ann Liebert releases preview issue of ‘Big Data’ at Strata + Hadoop World event -

Publisher Mary Ann Liebert, Inc., US, has released a preview issue of Big Data, its new journal, at the Strata + Hadoop World conference in New York City. The publication is projected as a highly innovative, open access journal that will publish peer-reviewed content without author processing fees.

The journal is led by Editor-in-Chief Edd Dumbill, Principal Analyst & Program Chair at O'Reilly Media, and an editorial team of data experts that includes Alasdair Allen, University of Exeter, UK; Danah Boyd, Microsoft Research; Michael Franklin, University of California, Berkeley; Ralf Herbrich, Facebook, Inc.; Jim Hendler, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute; Yossi Matias, Google; Claudia Perlich, Media6Degrees; Gregory Piatetsky-Shapiro, KDNuggets, ACM SIGKD; Daniel Tunkelang, LinkedIn; and Anne Wright, Carnegie Mellon University.

Big Data is stated to be the go-to platform for advances in new big data technologies, the discussion of unique and innovative big data problems and ideas, as well as the sharing and dissemination of world-class knowledge.

The premier issue includes original articles including "MapReduce is good enough? If all you have is a hammer, throw away everything that’s not a nail!", and "Unraveling the Complexities of Life Sciences Data," along with an exclusive interview with Jim Adler, Chief Privacy Officer and General Manager of Data Systems at Intelius.

It is expected that, with an innovative and pioneering business model to support this publication, authors will be able to publish their research without paying author processing fees, and readers will have the ability to access this content worldwide at no charge. By providing a unique forum for the vast dissemination of world-class data science research that addresses the challenges and opportunities in big data, the journal is said to bring the field of big data and the skills of the data scientist to a new level of excellence.

To ensure the broadest and most timely dissemination of research and experience, Big Data will publish open access under the CC-BY licence.
