EDP Sciences, a leading scientific publisher, has announced that five mathematics journals published in partnership with the Société de Mathématiques Appliquées et Industrielles (SMAI) have adopted a new Data Policy to promote transparency and encourage the sharing of research data.
While EDP Sciences already encourages authors to upload data and code related to their research, the five mathematics journals have implemented a more prescriptive data sharing policy. During the submission process, authors are now asked whether they have deposited data or code in a public repository. If the authors declare the presence of data or code in a repository, it becomes mandatory to include a data availability statement and data/code citations in their articles. EDP Sciences will systematically verify the presence and accuracy of these elements.
The five mathematics journals that have implemented this new policy are Mathematical Modelling of Natural Phenomena, ESAIM: Control, Optimisation and Calculus of Variations, ESAIM: Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Analysis, ESAIM: Probability and Statistics, and RAIRO - Operations Research.
Authors are encouraged to refer to the respective journal's Data and Code Sharing Policy for more detailed information, which can be found on the journal's website.
This move toward more rigorous data sharing aligns with the journals' transition to open access under the EDP Sciences/SMAI Subscribe to Open (S2O) model, which was launched in 2020. By embracing open science principles and promoting data and code sharing, the mathematics journals aim to benefit the broader scientific community and foster greater transparency and reproducibility in mathematical research.
