McGraw-Hill Education expands its free, virtual professional development series for college instructors -

McGraw-Hill Education has announced a new upcoming webinar on critical thinking, the latest installment in the learning science company's free Virtual Professional Development Series for higher education faculty. The webinar, "Instill a Critical Mindset," will be hosted by Dr. Heather Collins, a cognitive scientist at the Medical University of South Carolina, and will take place on October 19, at 1 p.m. EDT.

Dr. Collins has been published in prestigious academic journals, such as the New England Journal of Medicine, has collaborated on projects involving NASA astronauts, and her popular TEDx Talk, Successful Thinking: It's a Know-Brainer has 20,000+ views.

According to McGraw-Hill's 2018 Future Workforce Survey, only 56 percent of students feel they've learned critical thinking skills in college. McGraw-Hill's Virtual Professional Development Series, launched last year, aims to address a range of challenges that college instructors face, exploring new ideas and effective approaches for engaging and connecting with learners. Previous professional development webinars include: Online Learning: Are Students Adequately Set Up for Success? moderated by Michael Feldstein, Co-Publisher of e-Literate; and Engaging Generation Z in the Classroom, hosted by Dr. Jean Twenge, Professor of Psychology at San Diego State University.
