Officials from the US Department of Education (DoE) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) recently brought together leaders from the digital education industry to formulate a unified strategy for moving the nation’s K-12 classrooms into the digital age.
Among the education and technology industry leaders to take part in the Digital Textbooks Initiative Meeting was Dan Caton, president of McGraw-Hill School Education. According to Caton, McGraw-Hill School Education is working with the entire education community – from teachers and administrators, to partner companies like Apple, Intel and Inkling, to parents and students – to develop the technology that engages and immerses students in their education, while preparing them for success in college, career and beyond.
Led by FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski and US Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, the FCC and DoE Digital Textbooks Initiative Meeting is part of an ongoing initiative to spur national adoption of digital textbooks within the next five years. The working meeting addressed a wide spectrum of digital learning topics, including affordability, content, connectivity, device specifics, state policies and transition strategies.
