McGraw-Hill Higher Education's LearnSmart named among the best products and services in education technology -

McGraw-Hill Higher Education, a unit of McGraw-Hill Education, US, has announced that its industry-leading adaptive learning solution, McGraw-Hill LearnSmart, has been selected as a winner of eSchool Media's 2012-2013 Readers' Choice Awards in the category of Higher Education.

The recipients of the Readers' Choice Awards, which honour the best products and services in education technology, are selected based on nominations from school and college administrators across North America. eSchool Media's Readers' Choice Awards claim to be the only such consumer-determined awards to be bestowed by a leading education trade publication.

McGraw-Hill LearnSmart is an adaptive learning programme that tailors the learning experience to students' individual needs by continuously assessing students' knowledge and providing personalised recommendations that help them master core concepts and retain knowledge over time. Because of McGraw-Hill LearnSmart's adaptive nature and the ability for students to use it outside of class, students come to class better prepared, allowing instructors to spend less time covering the basics and more time covering advanced topics and leading rich discussions.

McGraw-Hill LearnSmart facilitates 'just-in-time teaching' by providing professors with insight into which topics students are struggling with, enabling them to adjust their lectures accordingly. In a study released last year, LearnSmart was shown to turn C students into B students, and B students into A students.

Earlier this week, McGraw-Hill Education announced plans to expand LearnSmart's reach by making it available direct to students in time for fall classes. This marks the first time that McGraw-Hill Higher Education, traditionally a business-to-business company that sells to instructors and institutions, has marketed its technology resources directly to students.
