MDPI and Bibsam Consortium renew open access publishing agreement for Swedish institutions -

MDPI has renewed its national agreement with Sweden’s Bibsam Consortium, extending its partnership to support open access publishing across 22 Swedish institutions. Under the agreement, participating institutions—such as KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Linnaeus University, Linköping University, and Stockholm University—will continue to benefit from MDPI’s Institutional Open Access Program (IOAP), including significant discounts on article processing charges (APCs) for affiliated authors.

This renewal reinforces the institutions’ collective commitment to advancing research excellence, fostering global collaboration, and facilitating open access to scholarly output. The agreement enables centralized funding of APCs, providing authors with financial support while easing administrative responsibilities. The streamlined process enhances publishing efficiency, allowing researchers to focus more directly on producing high-quality research.

The continuation of this agreement positions Sweden as a leader in open access publishing. With national open science policies providing strong support, the country has seen fewer than 15% of its research outputs behind paywalls as of 2023. Through this renewed collaboration, MDPI and the Bibsam Consortium aim to further expand access to Swedish research, ensuring greater global visibility and impact.

The partnership reflects a broader commitment to enabling flexible, scalable solutions that align with institutional goals, promote innovation, and contribute to a more inclusive and accessible scientific community.
