MDPI has signed a comprehensive Institutional Open Access Program (IOAP) agreement covering 96 institutions across Sweden. The announcement states that the agreement applies to researchers affiliated with participating Swedish universities, university colleges, and government research institutes.
Researchers at participating institutions are able to publish in any MDPI journal at no additional cost. The consortium is described as having paid a flat annual fee that covers article processing charges (APCs) for publications, allowing researchers to focus on their research and publishing without managing individual publication fees.
All submissions undergo an eligibility check, and manuscripts confirmed as eligible have APCs covered through the flat-fee arrangement. Authors with an approved APC waiver are instructed to inform the editorial office during submission so that the waiver can be applied. If APC coverage is declined, authors are notified and invoiced directly, with an IOAP discount applied.
