MDPI has renewed Norway’s national agreement with the Norwegian Agency for Shared Services in Education and Research (Sikt) for the 2026 period. The arrangement will remain in effect throughout 2026 and enables participating institutions in Norway to receive discounts on Article Processing Charges (APCs) through MDPI’s Institutional Open Access Program (IOAP).
Oslo New University College has joined the partnership this year, extending participation and increasing collaboration within Norway’s research network. The partnership with Sikt enables centralized funding mechanisms that help institutions manage open-access investments while supporting national open-science goals.
Institutions that take part in the agreement will have access to simplified funding workflows and open-access publishing services designed to support sustainable research dissemination and improve the visibility of research from Norway. The country has played a role in advancing open science through initiatives such as Plan S, which promotes broader access to publicly funded research, and the agreement supports institutions and researchers in sharing their work openly and increasing global visibility.
The continuation of this partnership reflects Norway’s role in open science and maintains MDPI’s engagement with the Nordic research community. Since 2020, more than 9,300 articles written by researchers affiliated with Norwegian institutions have appeared in MDPI journals, indicating ongoing collaboration between MDPI and Norway’s research sector.
