MDPI signs first consortium agreement in North America with Canadian federal science libraries -

The Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute (MDPI), a fully open access publisher, has signed its first North American consortium agreement with the Federal Science Libraries Network (FSLN) of Canada. The two-year agreement enables five Canadian federal agencies to participate in MDPI’s Institutional Open Access Program (IOAP), granting affiliated researchers access to discounted article processing charges across MDPI’s portfolio of 475 journals.

The participating institutions include Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, Environment and Climate Change Canada, Health Canada, the National Research Council Canada, and Natural Resources Canada. Through this partnership, MDPI expands its commitment to advancing open science globally by supporting Canada’s efforts toward greater transparency and accessibility in research dissemination.

The agreement coincides with the national policy momentum surrounding the Tri-Agency Open Access Policy, which is undergoing revision and expected to be renewed by the end of 2025. This development reflects Canada’s broadening commitment to scientific openness and policy-driven access reform.

MDPI emphasizes that the agreement reflects a shared commitment to fostering inclusive and impactful research dissemination at both local and international levels, aligning with broader scientific and policy goals in the region.
