MDPI has announced that it will publish the Journal of Gerontology and Geriatrics (JGG) on behalf of the Italian Society of Gerontology and Geriatrics (SIGG) beginning with Volume 74 in 2026. The journal will continue as a quarterly, peer-reviewed open access journal.
The Journal of Gerontology and Geriatrics is the official journal of SIGG and was founded in 1953 as Giornale di Gerontologia. MDPI stated the journal has evolved alongside the fields of gerontology and geriatrics and serves as a platform for research, clinical experience, and thought leadership on aging, with a particular focus on Italian and Mediterranean contexts.
According to MDPI and SIGG, the transition will maintain the journal’s existing publishing schedule and open access model, while continuing to prioritize academic rigor, peer review, and editorial transparency. The partnership is also expected to benefit from MDPI’s technical, editorial, and operational publishing expertise.
The publisher also stated the collaboration is intended to expand the journal’s global visibility, accessibility, and scientific impact. MDPI also invited researchers, clinicians, and policy experts worldwide engaged in aging research to participate in the journal’s next phase as authors, reviewers, and readers.
