Penton Technology has expanded its content ranks with the hiring of a new content director who will oversee Windows IT Pro, SharePoint Pro, SQL Server Pro, Dev Pro, and myITforum.
Veteran tech writer and Editor Michael Morisy has joined the Penton Tech team after spending a year as a John S. Knight Journalism Fellow at Stanford University, which champions innovation.
Morisy is the founder of MuckRock, America’s first collaborative Freedom of Information Act filing website, which has broken news on everything from NSA contracts and drone usage to domestic surveillance. Previously, Michael was the founding editor of BetaBoston for the Boston Globe, working with a team of journalists, designers, developers, and more to create the Greater Boston area’s preeminent tech and startup news site. Before that, he was a technology reporter and editorial director at various TechTarget websites, including running the question-and-answer site and blog network ITKnowledgeExchange. He was also a network fellow at the Edmond J. Safra Center for Ethics at Harvard University and is a frequent speaker on public records, data-driven journalism, and startups.
From his base in Boston, Morisy will contribute to and oversee the overall content direction of the sites that reach millions of end users, and play a key role in Penton Technology’s annual IT/Dev Connections conference, webinars, videos and podcasts. He will report to Penton Technology Executive Director of Content Marcia Parker.
