Microbiology Society and EIFL partner to offer fee-free open access publishing for developing countries -

In a significant step toward more equitable Open Access (OA) publishing, the Microbiology Society has signed a new agreement with Electronic Information for Libraries (EIFL) to waive Article Processing Charges (APCs) for researchers in developing and transition economy countries and territories. Starting in January 2025, the agreement will enable authors from 33 eligible nations to publish fee-free in all Microbiology Society journals.

Under the agreement, corresponding authors from qualifying countries will automatically receive fee waivers for OA publishing in the Society’s entire journal portfolio, including Access Microbiology, International Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology, Journal of General Virology, Journal of Medical Microbiology, Microbial Genomics, and Microbiology.

Eligible countries and territories include nations across Africa, Asia, and Europe, such as Ghana, Ethiopia, Nepal, Serbia, Ukraine, and Zimbabwe. The goal of this initiative is to ensure that researchers from these regions can share their work openly without financial barriers, promoting wider dissemination and access to scientific knowledge.

This partnership reinforces the Microbiology Society’s commitment to fostering global research collaboration and making Open Access more inclusive.
