MIT Press introduces NeuroNexus, journal on intelligence research -

The MIT Press has announced the launch of NeuroNexus, a new interdisciplinary journal dedicated to advancing the science of human and machine intelligence. The journal aims to integrate research across psychology, neuroscience, and engineering, while also emphasizing real‑world applications and societal implications.

NeuroNexus will publish original research, reviews, and theoretical work on topics such as the cognitive and neural foundations of intelligence, human‑centered artificial intelligence, and cognitive enhancement. It will also address broader issues including ethics, education, and the responsible development of intelligent technologies.

The journal is intended to fill a gap in scholarly publishing by providing a unified venue for interdisciplinary research on intelligence, which has been expanding across multiple fields in recent years.

Aron Barbey, Director of the Notre Dame Human Neuroimaging Center and Andrew J. McKenna Family Professor in Notre Dame’s Department of Psychology, will serve as editor‑in‑chief. He stated that NeuroNexus addresses one of the most complex challenges in science: understanding how intelligence arises in the mind, the brain, and in machines. Barbey emphasized that meaningful progress requires collaboration across psychology, neuroscience, and engineering, and that the journal will serve as a platform for such work.

Nick Lindsay, Director of Journals and Open Access at the MIT Press, noted that the launch comes at a time of significant developments in artificial intelligence, neuroscience, psychology, and computer science. He explained that the journal is intended to provide an effective venue for researchers working in these interdisciplinary areas and to contribute to the advancement of NeuroAI scholarship.
