Mohammed Yahia appointed Editor-in-Chief of Chemical & Engineering News -

The American Chemical Society (ACS) has announced the appointment of Mohammed Yahia as the new editor-in-chief of Chemical & Engineering News (C&EN), its esteemed weekly news magazine. Yahia will succeed Interim Editor Michael McCoy, assuming the leadership role in the coming weeks.

Yahia joins ACS from Springer Nature, where he served as an executive editor since 2014. With his extensive experience in the digital-first publication space, he brings valuable expertise to C&EN. In his new role, Yahia will report to Sarah Tegen, senior vice president of ACS Publications, and will be responsible for ensuring a well-balanced coverage of science, business, and policy topics that cater to the interests of the global chemistry enterprise. He will lead the development of a forward-looking strategic plan that solidifies C&EN's reputation as a pioneering and indispensable resource for the next century.

During his tenure at Springer Nature, Yahia successfully launched several new magazines in both print and digital formats. He also led global editorial teams, working with content in multiple languages, particularly English and Arabic. From 2017 to 2019, he served as the president of the World Federation of Science Journalists, further highlighting his leadership and influence in the scientific publishing community.

With Yahia at the helm, ACS is confident that C&EN will continue to evolve as a leading digital publication, delivering cutting-edge insights and comprehensive coverage to the global chemistry community. His appointment marks a significant milestone in the magazine's history as it embarks on its next century of providing essential news and analysis in the field of chemistry.
