Myles McGinley will succeed Jill Duffy as Managing Director for UK Education at Cambridge University Press & Assessment, taking on leadership of OCR, one of the UK’s major exam boards. He will assume the role in September 2025, following Duffy’s departure.
Currently serving as OCR’s Responsible Officer and Director of Regulation, McGinley has been with Cambridge since 2019 and brings over 20 years of experience in education, assessment, and publishing. His career includes leadership roles at Pearson, Oxford University Press, and Schoolsnet, along with a background as an English teacher. His expertise spans academic and vocational qualifications, learning, and teacher support, with a focus on fostering an open, inclusive, and rigorous education system.
Upon taking up his new position, McGinley will also join the Executive Board of Cambridge University Press & Assessment, which serves 100 million learners across more than 170 countries.
In recent years, OCR has expanded its influence in the education sector, introducing digital exams and launching a new GCSE in Natural History. Under Duffy and McGinley’s leadership, the board has also played a role in exam reform discussions, including the Striking the Balance report, which influenced the 2024 Curriculum and Assessment Review by advocating for reducing the volume and intensity of exams at age 16.
As he transitions into his new role, McGinley will build on Cambridge’s ongoing efforts to enhance student learning, teacher support, and assessment innovation. Duffy, who has led OCR through a period of growth and transformation, will support the transition process in the coming months.
Cambridge University Press & Assessment Chief Executive Peter Phillips underscored the significance of this leadership transition, noting that McGinley will guide Cambridge’s continued efforts to expand educational opportunities across the UK.
Beyond OCR, the UK Education group includes the Cambridge Centre for Evaluation & Monitoring, which provides schools with data-driven insights to better support learners.
