The National Association of EMS Physicians® (NAEMSP®) has announced the selection of Dr. David C. Cone as the next editor-in-chief of Prehospital Emergency Care (PEC), NAEMSP’s official journal. Dr. Cone succeeds Dr. Jim Menegazzi, who has worked since the journal was founded in 1997 to establish PEC as the EMS subspecialty’s most respected journal—a task that Dr. Cone plans to continue and expand upon as editor-in-chief.
Dr. Cone has been working with PEC and NAEMSP for more than 20 years. He was a founding member of PEC’s editorial board, where he currently serves as an associate editor. He served on the NAEMSP Board of Directors for 15 years in various roles, including a term as NAEMSP president. He edited all three editions of NAEMSP’s textbook and, in addition, served for seven years as editor-in-chief of Academic Emergency Medicine.
As the official journal of NAEMSP, PEC plays a vital role in NAEMSP’s ongoing commitment to improving out-of-hospital emergency medical care and promoting resources that connect, serve, and educate its members. PEC has published international research relevant to the practice of emergency medical services since 1997—featuring original research, NAEMSP® position papers, case conferences, collective reviews, and editorials. PEC also serves as the official journal of the National Association State of EMS Officials, National Association of EMS Educators, National EMS Management Association, National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians, and National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians.
Dr. Menegazzi will retire as editor-in-chief of PEC following the completion of Volume 25. To ensure a smooth transition, Dr. Cone will serve for one year as a deputy editor before taking the helm of PEC beginning in 2022.
