National Institute of Informatics in Japan and COAR to co-organise meeting of the Asian OA Community in Tokyo -

The National Institute of Informatics (NII) in Japan and COAR are co-organising a meeting of the Asian OA Community in Tokyo, Japan on March 4th, 2016 in conjunction with the Research Data Alliance meeting.

The aim of this meeting is to establish an Asian community of practice which can share OA related experience and hot topics between members. There is an international open access community such as Confederation of Open Access Repositories (COAR), however, the topics often focus on the high level of OA in the most advanced countries, rather than from the view point of the countries which are less developed. In addition, physical and time distance make it difficult for full engagement by Asian countries in these international discussions. In order to fill gaps and connect OA community beyond continents, the establishment of a local Asian community is crucial. This meeting will provide the opportunity for participants to share current status, success, concern and problem related to the open access activity in the Asian region. The discussion will focus on how to better share OA related activities and practices within Asian region. It will also expand on the librarian role in the research data sharing, which is one of the main topic of RDA.

The meeting will take place from 9am to 12pm on March 4th and the location will be posted on the RDA and COAR site when available. All members of the OA community from the Asian region are invited to attend this meeting.
