The National Science Library of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (NSLC) has selected the Summon service to better support the patrons of Chinese Academy of Sciences with an integrated resource discovery platform. This integrated resource platform has been built in NSLC, which used the Summon service API model, and integrated with local resources effectively. NSLC is the first institution to implement Summon for an integrated platform in China.
In recent years, NSLC has grown their collections to over ten million items, all accessible from more than 120 institutes, from over 24 cities across China. Like other libraries, NSLC encountered some issues in resource integration. One problem they were experiencing was that acquired digital resources could not be revealed effectively and unified because of lack of metadata support. Based on serious comparison and analysis, NSLC decided to acquire Summon to provide a better research experience for the patrons.
With the support of ProQuest, the library completed the challenging program by creating a local index to facilitate local self–built resource search, and proposed a unified discovery program based on the Summon API and local index in order to facilitate digital resource retrieval.
Working together, ProQuest and NSLC ensured that the Summon API sorting algorithm could fuse with local algorithms, and the ultimate search results could match their patrons’ queries.
