Academic and professional literature publisher Emerald Group Publishing Ltd., UK, has released a new book series that seeks to explore how social networking sites are changing the face of higher education.
Social networking is a 21st century phenomenon, with sites such as Facebook attracting over 500 million active users, and Twitter alone averaging over 65 million tweets a day. They have established themselves as powerful communication and collaboration tools in social and political arenas. Those in education are now looking at social media to exploit its potential for communication in and out of the classroom.
This potential is examined in a new book series from Emerald Group Publishing, whose first volume, New Directions in Teaching Technologies: Introduction to Educating Educators with Social Media, highlights the rapidly expanding role of social media in higher education. It also provides educators with information and direction on how they can engage in this important dialogue, not only with students, but also with their colleagues.
Edited by Dr Charles Wankel, Associate Professor of Management at St. John's University's Tobin College of Business, New Directions in Teaching Technologies: Introduction to Educating Educators with Social Media is Volume 1 of the Cutting Edge Technologies in Higher Education book series, published by Emerald. The publication is available as part of the Emerald eBook collection in Education.
