Open access publisher Public Library of Science (PLoS) has released an iPad app that covers all PLoS Journals. The new PLoS iPad app is available for free from the App Store.
PLoS claims to be one of the first academic journal publishers to offer an iPad version of its journals. The PLoS Journals iPad application allows users to browse and share from anywhere over 3G or Wifi; keep an archive of articles for offline reading; turn pages with a satisfying flick and scroll between them; and magnify pages.
PLoS is a nonprofit organisation of scientists and physicians committed to making the world's scientific and medical literature a public resource. Earlier this month, the organisation restructured its search capability to deliver an improved scholarly publishing search experience. The new search engine is claimed to be significantly faster than before and also return more relevant results with many ways to narrow, broaden, filter or sort.
