New York University (NYU) has selected the Alma library management system and the Primo discovery solution from Ex Libris, part of Clarivate, to enhance its library services. NYU's decision to join the Alma community marks the 81st member institution of the Association of Research Libraries (ARL) to do so.
The partnership between NYU and Clarivate extends to various libraries, including the Bobst Library, NYU Health Sciences Library, the NYU libraries in Abu Dhabi and Shanghai, as well as the Research Libraries Association of South Manhattan (which includes Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, New York Historical Society, the New York School of Interior Design, and The New School libraries).
By implementing Alma and Primo, NYU aims to streamline library workflows, making it easier for researchers, faculty, and patrons to leverage the vast collections and rich metadata available. NYU was particularly drawn to Alma's electronic resource management (ERM) functionality and the simplicity of a cloud-hosted system.
Alma and Primo will create a modern and productive user experience for NYU's patrons while enabling staff to provide better decision support. The implementation of these solutions will enhance the library's collection development, ensuring that resources are current and readily available when needed. Additionally, Alma and Primo will facilitate collaboration between libraries within and beyond NYU.
Alma, a cloud-based library services platform utilized by over 2,400 libraries worldwide, offers a unified approach to managing print, electronic, and digital materials. Its interface integrates with multiple tools for student success, research and learning, and library management. On the other hand, Primo is a modern discovery solution that maximizes the exposure of library collections, providing fast access to scholarly materials and intuitive exploration of new content.
The adoption of Alma and Primo by NYU will support the university in efficiently managing its library resources while fostering stronger connections throughout the campus community. The migration from Aleph to Alma signifies NYU's commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technologies to enhance library services.
