News segment fell 6 percent in 2010 publishing market, says Outsell report -

Research and advisory firm Outsell, Inc., US, has released a new report that seeks to offer an in-depth view of the news providers and publishers marketplace. Outsell has sized this market at $93.8 billion in 2010, down 6 percent from 2009, marking the largest segment decrease in the information industry.

The report, titled 'News Providers & Publishers: 2010 Final Market Size and Share Report' provides advice for publishers and information providers that want to create revenue opportunities, attract new buyers and achieve competitive advantage. Further, it seeks to support those who cover and need greater understanding of the news segment, including suppliers to the industry, investment bankers and analysts, and journalists.

News is still the largest segment tracked by Outsell, though its share of the information industry has dropped dramatically over the past five years, and continues to do so, for reasons analysed in this report. The report includes an overview of the news market, including size and growth data from 2006-2010; a comparison of the top 25 news companies by revenue and market share; revenue performance of the top 10 news companies; a chart showing market share and growth of the top 10 news companies; data on top news companies' revenue broken out by content format, business model, and geography; a table detailing the size, growth rates, and market shares of the top 50 news publishers and information providers; and essential actions for news publishers and information providers to succeed in this market.
