The National Federation of Advanced Information Services (NFAIS), the nation's leading membership association for the information services industry, announced that Robert J. Massie, former president of Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS), was designated an NFAIS Honorary Fellow at the NFAIS 2015 Annual Conference, February 22-24.
NFAIS created the title of Honorary Fellow in 1983 to recognise those who made significant contributions to NFAIS and to the information services industry during their professional careers. Massie, who as an Honorary Fellow is granted lifetime membership with NFAIS, was the 2008 NFAIS Miles Conrad Award Recipient. The Miles Conrad Award, given annually at the NFAIS Annual Conference, is considered the information industry's premier honour for achievement in fostering the growth of information services.
Massie led Columbus, OH-based CAS, a division of the American Chemical Society, as its president for more than 21 years before retiring in 2014. Prior to joining CAS in 1992, he served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Gale Research, a library reference publisher and subsidiary of the Thomson publishing organisation.
In addition to his corporate leadership roles, Massie has served on the boards of a number of for-profit companies, including MindLeaders. He currently serves as a member of several Boards of Directors in the Columbus area, including the Columbus Chamber of Commerce and The Columbus Partnership, a civic development organization comprised of 52 CEOs from Columbus' leading businesses and institutions focused on improving the economic vitality of the Columbus region.
Massie was honored at the NFAIS 2015 Annual Conference, now in its 57th year, held at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City, just outside Washington, DC, February 22-24.
