NFAIS to host annual conference: Giving Voice to Content, Re-envisioning the Business of Information -

The National Federation of Advanced Information Services (NFAIS), a non-profit organisation representing database creators, publishers, libraries, host systems, information technology developers, and content management providers, will convene in Philadelphia for the NFAIS annual conference February 23-25, 2014.

Thought leaders from across the country will explore the application of big data techniques, such as data mining, linking, analytics, and metrics, to create smart content, extract new insights, and create new business models that will change information markets and the organisations that serve them. Elsevier, along with The New York Times, and OCLC, will present several new products and services that are shaping the business of information delivery.

Hilary Mason, Data Scientist in Residence at Accel, Scientist Emeritus at bitly, and co-founder of HackNY, opens the three-day event with a keynote address on the value of freeing content from its current silos in order to reveal previously hidden meanings and relationships. Kerrie Holley, IBM Fellow and Chief Technology Officer, IBM SOA Center of Excellence will close the event by challenging participants to harness the possibilities and implications of combining cognitive systems with social media, mobile applications, analytics and the cloud for transforming information collection and delivery in the 21st century. Other conference topics include discussions with content providers and librarians on the re-use and sharing of content, privacy, content ownership, and attribution, as well as trends in "datafication", global shifts in how value is created, a demonstration of the Google Glass wearable computer, and this year's Miles Conrad Lecturer, Marjorie M.K. Hlava.

The NFAIS 56th annual conference, Giving Voice to Content: Re-Envisioning the Business of Information, will be held at the Philadelphia Bellevue Hyatt February 23-25, 2014.
