The National Information Standards Organization (NISO), a standards-setting body for the global information community, has announced the results of its latest board elections for the 2025–26 term, effective July 1, 2025.
Jonathan Clark of The DOI Foundation will assume the position of Chair of the NISO Board, following his term as Vice Chair over the past year. Jill Morris from the Partnership for Academic Library Collaboration and Innovation (PALCI) will step into the Vice Chair role and is designated to become Chair for the 2026–27 term. Robert Wheeler of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers will transition to Past Chair, having served as Chair during 2024–25.
Five new directors have been elected to serve a three-year term from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2028. The new members include Laura Cox of the Copyright Clearance Center, Cynthia Hudson Vitale of Johns Hopkins University, Alison Larkin of IEEE, Leslie Sharp of Georgia Institute of Technology, and Monica Westin of Manchester Metropolitan University and the COUNTER Board of Directors.
The departing board members are Ryan Bernier, Karim Boughida, Angela Ecklund, Patricia Ginnis, and Wayne Strickland. NISO has expressed appreciation for their service and contributions.
The incoming Chair emphasized the strategic role of NISO in a period marked by technological disruption and evolving modes of scholarly communication. He highlighted the importance of harnessing emerging tools and standards to support the community’s adaptation to these changes. The new Vice Chair affirmed the critical need for collaborative efforts across publishers, vendors, librarians, and technologists, underscoring NISO’s role in convening these diverse stakeholders to develop trusted standards. NISO leadership further noted that the newly elected board members bring valuable expertise and a wide range of perspectives to help guide the organization in advancing its mission.
