The Changing Standards Landscape, an annual program organised jointly by the Book Industry Study Group (BISG) and the National Information Standards Organization (NISO), will be held at the ALA Annual Conference in Las Vegas, NV.
The 2014 program will explore how globalisation is affecting the publishing and library communities in an increasingly digital marketplace, with a special focus on the standards and emerging technologies that support global e-book reading.
Rather than concentrate on differences and divergent needs, this forum will highlight where publishers and libraries share common ground and what each group can learn from the other. The agenda is being designed to identify areas where cooperative approaches can solve common problems.
The program will include sessions on the Readium Foundation and its potential for enabling greater e-book discoverability and interoperability through support of the EPUB standard, a data-first analysis of US book sales trends, and the impact of Thema in the global marketplace. Topics and speakers will be announced as they are confirmed.
The event is free of charge with your ALA registration.
