The voting membership of the National Information Standards Organization (NISO) has elected new leadership for the 2014-2015 term that began on July 1, 2014. Gerry Grenier, Senior Director, Publishing Technologies at IEEE, Inc. will become Chair of NISO for the 2014-15 term. Mike Teets, Vice President, Innovation, OCLC, Inc. has been elected to serve as Vice Chair of the NISO Board of Directors and will transition into the chairmanship in the 2015-16 term.
Grenier is a developer and manager of online information systems with 25 years of publishing industry experience. He is a seasoned team leader, technical manager, and product manager with interest in the future of information distribution and the effect that technology will continue to bear on the dissemination of knowledge.
Teets started his work at OCLC in 1985 as a Research Assistant while attending The Ohio State University, later transitioning to a full-time programmer in the OCLC Office of Research. He has held various executive roles at OCLC since 2005. In addition to serving as a Director on the NISO Board, he has been a member of the Dublin Core Metadata Initiative Oversight Committee (DCMI) and the Open Identity Exchange Advisory Board (OIX), and was one of the founding members of the InCommon Federation Steering Committee (Shibboleth trust federation).
Other industry leaders who were also elected as Directors on the NISO Board for a three-year term include: Oliver Pesch, Chief Strategist, E-resource Access and Management Services, EBSCO Information Services; Barbara Preece, Director, Loyola/Notre Dame Library; and Jabin White, Vice President, Content Management, ITHAKA. They will join the following Directors who will continue their terms in managing and setting strategic direction for the organisation through 2014-2015: Marian Hollingsworth, Director of Publisher Relations, Thomson Reuters; Evan Owens, Head of Technology Strategy, AIP Publishing, LLC; B. Tommie Usdin, President, Mulberry Technologies, Inc.; Tyler Walters, Dean of University Libraries, Virginia Tech University Libraries; and Keith Webster, Dean of University Libraries, Carnegie Mellon University.
Heather Reid, Senior Director, Data Services & Standards, Copyright Clearance Center, who previously served as NISO's Chair, will serve the next term in the role of Past Chair. Janice Fleming, Director of Business and Planning, American Psychological Association and a former Chair of the NISO Board, will continue to serve as NISO's Treasurer. Todd Carpenter, NISO Executive Director also serves Ex Officio on the Board as Secretary.
