NISO Plus 2026 Global/Online preliminary program released -

The draft program for NISO Plus 2026 Global/Online, scheduled for September 16–17, has been released by the NISO Plus Planning Committee.

This year’s virtual meeting will focus on the theme “Connecting Human Futures and Intelligent Systems through Standards.” The program emphasizes community values and ethics while exploring how new technologies can improve efficiency and make research more accessible and discoverable.

Sessions will address a range of timely topics, including:

• Copyright and licensing in AI

• Federated identity

• Managing AI access

• Multilingualism in publishing

• Persistent identifiers and metadata

• Restoring trust in the scholarly record

• Tracking provenance and attribution in AI

AI technologies and their impact on scholarly communication will be central to many sessions. Relevant NISO standards will be incorporated into discussions, giving participants the opportunity to provide feedback. Standards projects to be highlighted include:

• Communication of Retractions, Removals, and Expressions of Concern Recommended Practice

• Knowledge Bases and Related Tools Recommended Practice, Phase III

• Trust Markers Working Group

• US National PID Strategy

The program will also feature two keynote presentations, with details to be announced soon.

Organizers noted that registration rates remain unchanged from 2025, with discounts available for NISO members, groups, and residents of low‑ and middle‑income countries. Early‑bird registration is open until August 11.
