Nominations now open for Nature Awards for Mentoring in Science - Germany -

Scientific journal Nature has announced that nominations are now open for its 2008 Nature Awards for Mentoring in Science. This year two prizes of Euro 10, 000 will be awarded - one for mid-career and one for lifetime achievement. The Awards will be announced at a ceremony in Berlin in October 2008.

Nominees may work in any discipline within the natural sciences, and should be resident in Germany. They may nominate themselves or be nominated by colleagues and ex-colleagues. Nominations for a candidate must include independent testimonials by at least five researchers mentored by their nominee, not all over the same period.

Launched in 2005, the annual Nature Awards for Mentoring in Science recognise outstanding scientific mentorship. The Awards focus on a specific country or countries each year. The 2008 awards focus on Germany. In previous years the Nature Awards have highlighted mentors in Australia, South Africa and the UK.

Nomination forms are available on the 2008 Award page on the Nature website at www.nature.com/nature/mentoringawards/germany/. All nominations are required to be submitted on or before July 4, 2008.
