Open access publisher BioMed Central, UK, has announced that nominations are now open for the 6th Annual BioMed Central Research Awards. The awards bring together the scientific community to celebrate the finest open access research from the last 12 months. Reflecting the increasing importance of open access for scholarly communications, 2012 sees the awards programme expanded to incorporate a variety of biomedical disciplines.
Ten new award categories have been introduced, ensuring that all researchers publishing in BioMed Central’s journals have the opportunity to be recognised for their achievements, commitment and talent. Nominations are now open for the categories:
Cancer and Cardiovascular Research Award, Clinical and Translational Medicine Award, General Biology Award, General Medicine Award, Genetics, Genomics, Bioinformatics and Evolution Award, Microbiology, Immunology, Infection and Inflammation Award, Molecular and Cellular Science Award, Neuroscience, Neurology and Psychiatry Award, Open Data Award, Plant, Animal Sciences and Veterinary Research Award and Public Health Award.
The winning author(s) of each of these categories will be automatically shortlisted for the BioMed Central Research Award.
The BioMed Central Research Awards celebrate exceptional research published over the last year in BioMed Central’s 220 open access journals. The Awards also provide researchers with high visibility for their work, highlighting their achievements to the wider scientific community.
