OA Switchboard launches books solution with Cambridge University Press, IntechOpen and University of Michigan Press -

OA Switchboard has launched a new Books Solution, marking the first standardized framework for automating communications between publishers, funders, and institutions about open-access books. Following the successful 2023–2024 OA Books Pilot, the initiative introduces a community-governed model that streamlines reporting and improves transparency across the scholarly publishing ecosystem.

IntechOpen, Cambridge University Press, and the University of Michigan Press are the first publishers to go live on the platform. The Books Solution enables automated notifications when funded books or chapters are published, reducing manual tracking and aligning metadata exchange across systems.

The implementation is designed to improve workflows, increase publication visibility, support book policies, and integrate with the broader scholarly publishing ecosystem.

Built on OA Switchboard’s existing infrastructure for journals, the service extends the same interoperability and policy-support framework to scholarly books. It accommodates both open and non-open access titles, using structured ONIX feeds to deliver standardized, real-time metadata alerts to funders and institutions. OA Switchboard describes the Books Solution as model-agnostic and designed to strengthen transparency and efficiency in research communication.
