OCLC has announced the promotion of Constance Malpas to Vice President, Research. Malpas, who has been part of OCLC Research since 2006, has played a key role in advancing the efficiency and global impact of libraries. In her new capacity, she will lead the continued innovation and growth of OCLC Research, the Research Library Partnership, Leaders Council, and WebJunction.
OCLC President and CEO Skip Prichard emphasized that the advancement of the library community is more critical than ever. He noted that libraries are redefining their roles in education, technology, and community well-being, and require research that translates directly into strategic action. He highlighted Malpas’s ability to connect rigorous research with real-world library strategy as a key reason for her appointment.
The OCLC Research strategic plan outlines priorities in technology transformation, the evolving role of libraries in education, and their community contributions to community well-being and belonging. By engaging global library leaders and attracting new talent, OCLC aims to make its research more agile while continuing to advance its public mission.
Malpas’s career spans senior roles in research, strategic intelligence, and enterprise program leadership at OCLC. She previously held leadership positions at the New York Academy of Medicine and RLG. A recognized author and speaker in the library and information science field, she holds advanced degrees from Princeton University and Mount Holyoke College.
