Library information provider OCLC Research, US, has announced the appointment of Titia van der Werf as Senior Program Officer, based in OCLC's Leiden office. Her appointment is effective January 1, 2012.
In her new position, van der Werf will coordinate and extend OCLC Research work throughout Europe and will have special responsibilities for interactions with the OCLC Research Library Partners there. She will represent OCLC in European and international library and cultural heritage venues.
van der Werf is a well-known manager in the cultural heritage sector and a leader in the strategic application of information technology in libraries, archives and museums. For the past five years, she has been the Director of Collections and Digital Infrastructure at the International Institute of Social History (IISG) in Amsterdam where she oversaw innovative changes in the organisation, processes and technology to align with a new strategy of research support at the Institute.
Building on her academic training and professional experience in informatics, she has been a prominent contributor to important national and international projects of the scholarly communication programme of the SURF Foundation (the major driver of ICT innovation in the Dutch academic sector) and the European Union programme for digital libraries. Throughout her career she has contributed to policies that shape the direction for libraries, archives and museums in the digital age including preparing the Preliminary Draft UNESCO Charter on the Preservation of the Digital Heritage.
