Libraries participating in OCLC’s Express digital delivery program have surpassed 2 million fulfilled copy requests since its launch in January 2021. The milestone highlights the program’s growing role in accelerating access to digital resources within the world’s largest resource-sharing network.
Designed for institutions with fast turnaround times, Express includes over 1,100 libraries that now fulfill requests in an average of 10 hours—well below the 18-hour threshold for participation. Powered by AI-enhanced smart fulfillment, the system automates interlibrary loan processes and reduces processing times by up to 50%.
The program integrates with WorldShare ILL, Tipasa, ILLiad, and Resource Sharing for Groups, allowing participating libraries to maintain familiar workflows. Institutions across nearly 20 countries, including academic, public, corporate libraries to medical, government, and law libraries deliver faster service without additional costs.
Amid staffing and budget constraints, libraries such as Drake University and Moraine Valley Community College have reported significant efficiency gains. The Express model continues to demonstrate how automation and global collaboration can meet user expectations for rapid, reliable access to scholarly materials.
