OpenAIRE and NII partner to advance Open Science infrastructures -

OpenAIRE and the National Institute of Informatics (NII) have forged a strategic partnership aimed at advancing research and development (R&D) in Japan's Open Science infrastructures. This alliance underscores a mutual commitment to enhancing interoperability, promoting best practices, and fostering knowledge exchange in the realm of scholarly research.

The agreement between OpenAIRE and NII is poised to revolutionize the landscape of research infrastructures by providing FAIRable (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) solutions to academic organizations. Key objectives of the collaboration include sharing expertise on metadata standards, aggregations, and curation of scholarly information, including research data.

At the heart of this partnership lies a shared goal of enriching and expanding the coverage of the CiNii Research Knowledge Graph and its connection to the OpenAIRE Graph. OpenAIRE will lend its expertise in metadata enrichment and deduplication, while NII will serve as curators for Japan Research Performing Organizations (RPOs) within the OpenOrgs framework.

Moreover, the collaboration will extend to providing training sessions on responsible research assessment (RRA) and Open Science monitoring, aligning with initiatives such as the CoARA working group and Horizon Europe projects. These efforts aim to empower users with the tools and knowledge needed to navigate the evolving landscape of Open Science effectively.

To promote FAIR-enabling research data management, NII's Data Governance Function and OpenAIRE's ARGOS Service for Data Management Plan will exchange knowledge on interoperability practices, particularly focusing on machine-actionable data management plans (maDMPs). This exchange will be facilitated through events and webinars under the Open Science Trails project.

As OpenAIRE and NII embark on this transformative journey, they are poised to drive impactful change in research infrastructures, fostering collaboration, transparency, and innovation. Through their collective efforts, they aim to pave the way for a more inclusive and collaborative future for research institutions worldwide.
