ORCID Registry set for October 2012 launch, solicits launch partners -

ORCID an international, interdisciplinary, open and not-for-profit organisation, has announced that the ORCID Registry will go live in October 2012. Once the registry is launched, individuals can register for a persistent ORCID ID to manage their ORCID record.

In addition to the public registry, the October release will include a public Application Programming Interface (API). Also, members will be given an authenticated API to create, edit and view information stored in the ORCID Registry. During the pre-launch phase ORCID is working with institutions, publishers, manuscript tracking vendors and funding bodies to ensure effective integration of ORCIDs into a variety of critical research workflows.

The new ORCID Registry will include features such as usability, fields & objects, privacy management, public data read access interface, widgets & member site integration and logging & tracking.

ORCID is currently soliciting launch partners to get broad feedback on launch functionality and to ensure early integration of ORCID services. The launch partners programme is similar to a beta programme that one may find with other product launches. Partners must be dedicated to provide feedback and suggestions to ORCID throughout the 15-week launch period and a commitment to become a member by the ORCID launch date.

Among the benefits of participating in the partners programme are personalised integration support, the ability to influence system functionality, pre-launch data loading, and recognition of partner support. Partners may play a role in at least one of the following areas: reviewing use cases, providing advice on functionality, API integration, performing user acceptance testing, and testing high-volume data loads.
