The Optical Society (OSA) recently announced new editors-in-chief for two of its journals and revealed the new branding of its highly-reputed subscription-based journals.
Andrew Weiner, Scifres Family Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Purdue University is the new editor of OSA's flagship open access journal, Optics Express. The journal is well-known for its rapid time to publication and high impact factor. Weiner will oversee peer review for over 6,000 submissions to Optics Express each year and will lead the journal's strategic growth and direction for the next three years.
Grover Swartzlander, associate professor at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), is the new editor of the Journal of the Optical Society of America B (JOSA B). Swartzlander will be responsible for maintaining the high-quality standards that JOSA B is known for in the optics and photonics community, and for leading this broad-based journal that focuses on research related to the interaction of radiation with matter, such as quantum optics, nonlinear optics, and laser physics.
In addition to starting the year with two new editors, OSA also announced a contemporary new look for its portfolio of subscription-based journals. The new brand, which is being rolled out across its five subscription journals, is consistent with the look of OSA's Express or open-access journals and gives each journal a contemporary appearance that augments the high-quality content that the optics and photonics community has come to expect from OSA.
The new look already appears in the online editions of Advances in Optics and Photonics, Journal of the Optical Society of America A, JOSA B and Optics Letters. The new covers will debut on the print editions as each journal publishes its first issue for the year. The designs complement the journal cover for Applied Optics, which was redesigned in 2012 for its 50th anniversary.
