OUP and American Physiological Society launch new OA journal - Function -

Academic publisher Oxford University Press (OUP) and the American Physiological Society (APS) have announced that the new journal, Function, is now accepting submissions. Function will provide an open access multidisciplinary home for cutting edge research describing major advances in basic, translational and clinical science that significantly broaden the physiological understanding of biological function.

Ole Petersen has been named founding editor-in-chief of Function. Petersen, a member of the Royal Society, is a professor at the Cardiff University School of Biosciences in Wales and director of Academia Europaea Cardiff University Knowledge Hub. He was appointed a Commander of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II in 2008 for services to science. His goals for the journal include both attracting innovative research and encouraging authors to think about established areas of research differently.

Function will publish research results in the broad area of biological function that are rooted in a physiological basis. The journal is inviting studies from the global physiology community that demonstrate real novelty, have been rigorously executed with reproducibility in mind and represent a step-change in knowledge.
