Non-profit electronic archiving service provider
Portico, US, has announced that its archive of scholarly e-journals now contains over 3.6 million articles.
With Portico's collaborative approach to building and sustaining its archive, libraries and publishers can together contribute toward a shared infrastructure which supports the long-term preservation of electronic scholarly literature. Currently, over 7,200 journal titles from 46 publishers have been entrusted to Portico.
Portico was launched in 2005 with support from JSTOR, The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, Ithaka, and the Library of Congress in response to the now urgent need to develop robust means to preserve scholarly e-journals, and to ensure their future access.
