Over 30,000 e-book titles made available on BooksOnBoard for iPhones -

Online books retailer BooksOnBoard, US, has announced that it has released over 30,000 e-book titles for iPhones. Now iPhone owners can get most new release books anywhere on either Apple iPhone or iTouch with direct downloads to the device through the AT&T 3G network or through local wireless networks. Titles must be in the eReader eBook format.

Users currently require the free Stanza application found in the iPhone apps store in order to download and read the books. Detailed instructions for new users can be found at http://www.booksonboard.com/index.php?F=iPhone_ebooks.

There are several e-book readers available on the iPhone currently with more expected in the coming year. BooksOnBoard plans to work with any of them that allow its customers to read popular new titles from the publishing community. The retailer also offers over 5,000 recently released MP3 audio books which can be downloaded from BooksOnBoard and added to iTunes for inclusion on iPhone, iTouch and iPod.

Wireless handheld devices such as Blackberry, iPhone and PDA are becoming increasingly popular among the academic community. Handheld devices are being projected as an ideal platform for mobile learning and reference, particularly in medical education and practice. McGraw-Hill Professional, part of education materials publisher McGraw-Hill Education, recently partnered with Modality to bring Zollinger's Atlas of Surgical Operations to the iPhone and iPod touch.

In a similar move, in December 2008, technical publisher Apress, Inc. announced the publication of its first iPhone development title, Beginning iPhone Development: Exploring the iPhone SDK, authored by veteran Mac developers Dave Mark and Jeff LaMarche. The title seeks to take the reader from the basic downloading and installing of the free SDK, right through to building applications that make use of advanced features such as iPhone's MultiTouch Gestural Support and Accelerometer.
